Boothing Windows
Apparently, Microsoft thinks that demoing their latest products at my university will drive sales, so they have a small booth in the cafeteria this week. (Most of the students have access to a free, legal copy of the most recent Windows versions anyway, so I don’t fully understand why Microsoft thinks throwing money at stuff like that is a good idea.) I talked to a really nice Microsoft...

– Carl Sagan, The Persistence of Memory. When I saw this quote on The Changelog, I immediately read it in Carl Sagan’s voice. I don’t know if that’s because I’ve watched and loved Cosmos or because of his unique use of language—probably a combination of both. It’s a...

Rolling out another redesign
I don’t think pasting some code into that box in the Tumblr backend qualifies as “rolling out”, but it just sounds really awesome, doesn’t it? Anyway, this redesign takes a couple steps back to an old design of mine which, in retrospect, I liked more than the latest redesign - at least visually. The code is completely rewritten and freshly spiced with some fancy JavaScript...

[Headline is being processed right now] »The fear-ridden species settled into a long slide of despair that ended with degenerate descendants no longer able to dream.« Noah Doersing recommended this article from skyhunter.com …and since QUOTE.fm seems to take a couple weeks to process this sci-fi short story’s headline: It’s called The Gentle Seduction and you should read it.

The Last Dance (by colatron22) →
No heartache, no getting over it…just good old fashioned fun… and a ton of hidden sub-text and auto-biographical mashery. Available to download in a RAR, split in to tracks with full art and tracklistings at http://www.colatron.com/2011/10/last-dance.html I particulary love the opening of this mashuppy mixtape - but really, everything about it is great.

Last Words »Until I hit play on an old-school Walkman last month, I had forgotten that it was possible for my full name to be said with so much love. “This is for Rebecca Jane Hamilton.” My Dad’s words crawled above the whirring of the cassette. It was the first time I’d heard his voice in nearly twenty-five years.« mnjl recommended this article from newyorker.com Straßenmusik Bachblüten »Um...

5 Centimeters Per Second

4AD and Jagjaguwar have collaborated on a live session that captures a truly unique Bon Iver performance, featuring Justin Vernon and Sean Carey. On recent tours fans will have become accustomed to seeing Vernon flanked by an eleven-piece band, with the swell in numbers lending a grandiose element to even his most delicate songs. Sidestepping expectations, the idea Vernon presented for this...

The Last Question by Isaac Asimov © 1956 »Then, just as the frightened technicians felt they could hold their breath no longer, there was a sudden springing to life of the teletype attached to that portion of Multivac. Five words were printed: INSUFFICIENT DATA FOR MEANINGFUL ANSWER.”No bet,” whispered Lupov. They left hurriedly.« Noah Doersing recommended this article from...
